Preparations are in progress for the 29th Annual Livermore Community
Thanksgiving Dinner.
This dinner is not just for seniors or needy, it's for ANY ONE that
doesn't want to be alone on Thanksgiving Day. The original idea for
this dinner was that there are a lot of people transplanted to this
area with no relatives nearby. We felt they needed a place to go on
Thanksgiving Day so they wouldn't be alone.
This was never intended to be a "soup kitchen" for the homeless or
part of a meal program for seniors. It was meant to be a COMMUNITY dinner
and ALL are welcome including homeless, seniors, singles, families,
and any one else that would like to attend and make new friends. This
is not a charity dinner but it is free to all.
If you don't like getting something for nothing, you can lend a hand,
entertain other guests, make a donation, whatever you want, but it is
not required. This event is supported by contributions from individuals
and local businesses. It is non-religious and non-political, we are
not sponsored by any religious or political group but we will take donations
from anyone.
We have no politicians making speeches or shaking hands (we do occasionally
have a Judge carving turkeys) nor do we have any sermons that you have
to listen to. We do have a traditional Thanksgiving meal including turkey,
dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, yams, green beans, salad, and every
type of dessert imaginable. We also provide live entertainment, a children's
playroom and Santa has been known to make an appearance.
You, your family and friends are invited to attend the dinner. We serve
between the hours of 1 and 5 PM at the Bothwell
Center at 2466 Eighth Street in Livermore. If you would like to
help out there there are still a few openings on the sign up lists and
there are jobs available that we do not have on the lists. We usually
need help from 0900-1200 with set up and picking up Veterans, peeling
potatoes, making salad, etc. During the dinner in the afternoon there
are odd jobs that need filling, and at 5 PM we always need help with
cleanup
If you can't make it on Thanksgiving Day, we could use help during the
day on Wednesday picking up plants, decorations, food, etc. We then
have a meeting on Wednesday night at 7 PM at the Center where we set
up and decorate the hall. On Friday at 10 AM we're back down at the
hall returning all the stuff we rented or borrowed.
If you would like to sign up for a specific job please click the Vounteer button.
If you have any other questions please call (925) 455-9782.
